Torn Open
Torn Open is a 9-piece Encaustic Mixed Media Series. Each encaustic design is blanketed by free-form crochet yarn loops attached to hand-dyed linen dipped in encaustic medium. Hidden beneath the linen is an intertwined webbing of encaustic paint and shellac. The holes in the linen represent raw openings in which we are viewed, demonstrating the vulnerability it takes to be open, a difficult trait that we exhibit as humans. Each of the nine pieces are 4" x 4" square. All frames are painted a custom dark color to allow the designs to appear floating and to keep the observer focused on the series.
