collecting art

So you are interested in buying art, but have no idea where to begin. Starting an art collection can be overwhelming. It can also be rewarding. You get to fill up your walls and your home with one of a kind paintings that speak to you.

So how do you go about doing this? You look at art, all kinds of art. And then you go with your gut. The beauty of art is that it is subjective. Yes, you could look at this as an investment as well, but art is more than an investment. It is a way of expressing your unique personality, a way of connecting with others, and a way exploring the world without leaving your own home.

How to start an art collection

You may now be wondering how you go about searching for art. The internet, art fairs, and galleries are great places to start. I thought I’d give you a helping hand by few by sharing some of my artist friends and their work.

Laura Dechaine

Laura’s art is inspired by nature. “Whether it’s the way the sunlight wraps around the side of a tree or the subtlety of color on the petals of a flower. It’s all amazing to me and I’m driven to record it all.” - Laura Dechaine

Hope is a watercolor artist who paints both florals and landscapes. “My art is an expression of my thoughts on hope and beauty…..I am always exploring and pushing the boundaries of my work as an artist both technically and philosophically” - Hope Helms

Gill Douglas

Gill is a contemporary fine artist who mixes in slow stitch embroidery with her painted canvases. “Painting has my whole heart, but slow stitching inspires me in a new way. Perhaps because it reminds me of my childhood in a very tactile way, maybe its the fact that sewing helps me become quiet and mindful, but I’ve grown to love the quiet inspiration and added layers that stitching brings to my paintings and art work” - Gill Douglas
