No goal setting just planning as an Artist for 2022

As I slowly roll into the new year, I wanted to talk about how I plan for 2022 without putting the pressure of goals on myself and my business. If the thought of setting goals is completely overwhelming, daunting, and feels too demanding then this is for you.

First let me say that if you are a goal setting person, by all means set those goals. I find the thought of setting goals makes me feel like I’m in a pressure cooker that is about to explode

Instead I like to plan my year out by starting with a few big ideas. So my first tip is to jot down some ideas or projects you would like to work on. Keep them pretty broad, don’t get into the nitty gritty. Once you have 3-5 concepts, projects, or ideas down start spreading them out over the year. Think about holidays, personal appointments and vacations you may already have scheduled. Make sure you give yourself plenty of space and time between each item. Don’t stretch your self too thin. If you see your calendar looks quite full don’t be afraid to put one of those ideas aside. You can always add it back in. This should make you excited for the upcoming year, not stress you out.

Next you can start breaking down these ideas a bit more. I like to start with the project that might be happening first. By breaking the project or idea down a bit further it helps me see about how much time this could take. I also like to break my year out into quarters, focusing on one quarter at a time. This is less overwhelming for myself.

Once I have these projects narrowed down a bit, I move them onto the computer. I have found this easier than a paper planner. You could do the same exact thing with a paper planner. I use a program called Trello and find it very simple to use. It is easy to move things around in, keep track of any future ideas, and put projects off to the side if need be. Trello is also where I keep track of ideas for my website, blog, YouTube, personal projects, and more.

If you would like to see more, I have created a more in depth video of my planning process, both on paper and in Trello.
